Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Thanksgiving went well! We had everyone over for Turkey. Great time spent with family. We also had everyone over for Christmas! I made a Christmas Tree cake. I love Christmas, but I am so glad all of my Christmas projects are finished! I will try to upload some pictures, but it depends on if my computer wants to work or not... Anyways, future things coming up: planning for the future, preparing things for my hope chest to one day fill in my home, and updates from day-to-day life. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a Happy New Year!!! God Bless!

And I am sure next year I will have a chance at my own turkey ;) I'm sure moms turkey will be wonderful as always! But if anyone tries that recipe, I would love to hear about it! Thanksgiving

Tomorrow is the big Turkey day! There are lots of things to get done around here. We are having most of my family over tomorrow and I am super excited. I will be cooking the Turkey this year... my first ever! I have found this wonderful recipe and I have wanted to try it since last Thanksgiving. This year mom has agreed to let me handle the bird. If you are still looking for a recipe for your bird, this is the one I am using: Turkey Recipe I will be sure to post pictures of how the turkey turned out and if my family loved it.
I know Thanksgiving is tomorrow, but I have been planning for Christmas for over a month now... This Christmas I have decided that all of my gifts will be handmade, nothing purchased. Everything I will be using are things I already have around the house. I have just about everything I am going to make planned out, but there are still a couple of people I have no idea what to make... So, I guess I am still looking for a few ideas.
If you have been searching for a place to find great ideas for homemade Christmas gifts look no further than sewmamasew.com/blog2/  They have a new category everyday in the month of November, so I am sure everyone can find something they would love to create. Also, if you are still searching for that perfect homemade gift to create you can search the ideas from past years. And if you still can't find anything... You can look at past months with their ideas for projects such as: Hand Sewing Month, Kids' Clothes Month, and even Sew-Alongs. This really is a great blog with lots of great ideas I hope everyone gets a chance to check it out!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! God Bless!!!

Long time, no blog....

I know it has been awhile since my last blog post... Truthfully, these things scare me sometime... :( I never really know what to write or how to write, but I am going to make it my personal goal to add something every couple of days.
I have to admit I love reading other blogs. It is a great way to learn new and interesting things. One of my favorite things to read about is how to live more naturally, also known as eco-friendly. I have to admit that some people take that to a whole new level... I don't really understand all the hype about global warming. This is God's planet and if He wants it warmer He will make it warmer. :) I am learning that I as a Christ follower should respect the gift God has given me and strive to be a good steward of this precious gift. I have found a few blogs/websites that I have grown to LOVE that deal with topics such as living more frugally, simpler, healthier, and naturally.
http://simplemom.net/  This website is one of my favorites. They have a new article just about everyday. I know I am not a mom yet, but they have wonderful tips on living naturally and simple ways to improve the gift of being stewards for the Lord. Great read for all women- single or married.
http://www.moneysavingmom.com/ Speaking of budgets... This is one of the best ones I have found for great deals on food and other products. She offers great advice on saving money and where you can find those coupons! She even shares posts of free items, free is always wonderful! This one is an everyday read. New deals and thrills by the day.
http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/ This one is my very recent find. I absolutely love it! She has wonderful advice and tips on how to eat natural foods and how to do it on a budget. I am learning so much from this one! She even has links to a great website where you can find local organic farmers in your area. Check it out!

I hope some of these websites are of some use to you. I know I enjoy them! :) I would love to know of any "Eco-Friendly" websites that are a must read for you!!! God Bless.

Decisions & Directions

I have been struggling with what to write in my next blog. Then it hit me. I will just write about what I am dealing with these days. It will not be some fancy blog where I say all the right words or have all the answers. Just a simple blog of what is on my mind.
If you did not know, I am debating if I should return back to college or continue to be a stay-at-home daughter. I wish to continue my degree, but at the same time I want to stay at home to be a blessing to my parents. I am so torn between the two. I know in my heart that I desire to be a stay-at-home mother, but how do you explain that to someone when you have not a prospect to marry? How do you say, I feel it is my calling to stay at home with my children and you have none? I want to stay at home and prepare, but I know if I attend college and receive my teaching degree it will be useful in the homeschooling of my children. I know you do not have to have a degree to teach your children, but I want to be the best I can for them.
Staying at home has it's perks, but sometimes I believe I am more of a hassle then a blessing.  I try to help out where I can, but it seems my parents think it would be best if I get a job. I do not mind having a job or getting one, but the problem is... where? I have applied to many different places with no response. I need a job to continue my education and I need a job to stay-at-home, but let's face it the economy is horrible. In these situations I do not where the Lord is sending me. I do not know what He is trying to tell me. It's in the Lords hands, not mine.
Lord help me to do Your will and not mine. Show me which way to go and what You would have for me, not my selfish dreams. Show me Thy ways Lord. Help me stay on the straight and narrow. Through all of this to grow closer to You dear Lord and rely on Your strength. Teach me dear Lord. Show me.

Fireworks and Foes

There will always be someone in this world that will oppose you. Even as a Christian, I still struggle with this. I have to make an effort to bite my tongue and  not to say certain things. I try to take a step back from the situation and calm down. So that my emotions are not the deciding factor in what comes out of my mouth. The hardest thing in dealing with this is: that sometimes no matter what you say or how you say it, someone is not going to like it. Some people will even choose to publicly denounce your character to anyone that will hear. After this, the only thing that you can do is ask God for help with forgiving this person. We all have said somethings we regret in the past, but we have an Almighty God that has the power to forgive, all you have to do is ask. Even though it's hard to forgive the harsh words of others, meditate on how many times the Lord has blessed you with His forgiveness. So for this 4th of July, lets forget the hurtful words that were said, thank the men who fought for freedom, and Love the God who saved us! God Bless!

Tea Cakes

This is one of my favorite things to make. It is a big hit with all the family and it is one thing that seems to please them all! Which is not an easy task. I received this recipe from my Great-Aunt Itchy, not her real name just a nickname. She made these cakes for me a few years back and I have loved them ever since! Tea Cakes are really easy to make and wonderful to eat. So, enjoy! :)

Tea Cakes
1/2 cup Butter                   1 3/4 cup Flour
3/4 cup Sugar                    1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla                      1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 Egg                                    Oven: Preheat 350

Cream together first three ingredients, then add to that mixture: Egg, Flour, Salt, and Baking Powder. Drop on greased cookie sheet by heaping Tablespoons. Flatten cookies with a fork dipped into sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes, just until the bottoms turn brown. Do not cook for too long!
*Hints:
* I used two cookie sheets. a. more cookies b. less time
* Cookies do not tend to turn brown on the bottom so you will probably need to turn the                 oven on broil for a minute for the tops to turn brown.

Changes from day to day...

My thoughts and plans change from day to day. Yesterday I really was thinking about going back to college in Florida, but today I feel content with being a stay-at-home daughter. I am still searching for what the Lord wants, but I know He will show me His way in His time. I will just wait. I think if I continue to be a stay-at-home daughter, I will look into going to an online school. That way I can still get an education, but from the comfort of my own home. So just keep checking in to see what the future holds. I am planning to write my thoughts from day to day. May God Bless. :)
